Too Many Black Women With Heart Disease -- Live Longer By Doing These 4 Things!
The number one cause of death in America is heart disease. It can affect anyone, including both men and women. But, it is a disease that particularly affects African-American women. By living a healthier life, women can reduce their risk of heart disease and complications resulting from heart disease.
#1 - Don't smoke - according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one in five black women smoke. Smoking increases your blood pressure, heart rate, and risk of blood clots. Don't smoke!
#2 - Exercise - the NIH reports that 55 percent of black women are physically inactive. Exercise is critical to keep your heart healthy, and just 30 minutes of mild exercise every day will lower your blood pressure and cholesterol.
#3 - Eat healthy - this means limiting the bad stuff, like red meat, sugar, salt, and fat. Replace these foods with more fruits fruits and vegetables and low-fat dairy products.
#4 - Keep your weight down - according to the NIH, nearly 80 percent of black women are obese. Obesity increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, arthritis, and some cancers.
