Avoid These Two Foods and Your Depression Will Go Away

More than 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression. Depression is a form of mental illness that impairs a person's thoughts, behavior, daily activities, and physical health. Researchers have found a number of foods that can either cause or aggravate depression.

Two foods to avoid

Sugar and processed foods are at the top of the list to avoid if you suffer from depression.

#1 - The effects of sugar: Sugar is a major factor in depression. First, sugar inhibits the activity of an important growth hormone in the brain. High sugar intake also increases inflammation and can interfere with the brain's normal activity. In addition, sugar inhibits the production of insulin and leptin which are important for brain health.

#2 - The effects of processed food: Processed foods are also to be avoided. Processed means altered, and that means the product has been treated with chemicals and other artificial additives that can result in depression and panic attacks. Even the artificial sweetener aspartame has been shown to promote depression and affect mood.

A word about gluten

Gluten is found in wheat, rye, and barley products. Many people avoid gluten because it causes digestive problems. But gluten may also negatively impact mood and brain health. Studies have even shown that wheat especially can cause depression or schizophrenia.
