5 Black Women That are Making the Biggest Impact on Health and Fitness
We all know the importance of staying fit, but where can we turn for good health advice? There are lots of people who claim to have good tips, but these 5 black women are by far having the biggest impact when it comes to health, fitness and happiness for others:
#1 - Michelle Obama: The First Lady leads the pack by starting her "Let's Move" initiative back in 2001 to help decrease obesity rates among children and provide healthier food choices. This was followed by her latest, the #GimmeFive challenge to kids, parents and even celebrities to give her five ways to be healthy. But Obama walks the walk with her own personal training regime inside and outside the gym.
#2 - Misty Copeland: Copeland made history as the first African-American principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. She is also recognized as a world-famous athlete and the first ever ballerina to be endorsed by the fitness clothing company Under Armour.
#3 - Oprah Winfrey: When Winfrey speaks, black women listen, and that includes information on health. She recently teamed up with Weight Watchers to launch the Beyond the Scale campaign, which focuses on a total healthy lifestyle rather than just counting calories.
#4 - Jeanette Jenkins: As the founder and president of the Hollywood Trainer fitness company, she is also the personal trainer for Hollywood stars like Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys and Pink. She is also the host of Lifetime Television's My Workout and has a blog where she promotes healthy lifestyles.
#5 - Jessamyn Stanley: Stanley has been featured in Cosmopolitan and the New York Times for her powerful example of a full-figured women -- who is also a yoga expert. Her yoga poses made her instantly connect with other black women. She is referred to as being "refreshingly relatable, honest and inspiring."
