The Rumors are True -- Janet Jackson is Pregnant At 50! -- But Is it Safe For Women to Give Birth at This Age?
News is travelling fast all around the world about Janet Jackson's pregnancy. Not only is Jackson a famous singer, songwriter, actress and dancer, she is also having her very first child at the age of 50!
Her first child
This will be Jackson's first child. She married businessman Wissam Al Mana, 41, in 2012. They revealed her pregnancy about four months ago, and recently she delayed her Unbreakable world tour in Europe so she could rest. The big question right now, due to her age, is, 'How is she doing?'
Is it safe to have a child at this age?
This is a big question on the minds of everyone. According to AARP, women after 50 are having babies. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, births by women ages 50 to 54 rose by more than 165 percent from the year 2000 (255 births) to 2013 (677 births). Physicians do warn that women who get pregnant after 50 have increased possibility for gestational hypertension and diabetes, and preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication that includes high blood pressure and possible organ damage.
In good health
But Jackson is doing very well, according to her family. She is resting, taking care of her health, and feeling well. But she has no plans to retire after the birth of her baby. As she stated recently, "I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can.”
When the baby arrives, she will likely be posting baby pics on her Instagram account at www.instagram.com/janetjackson/
